Tim Curr 1946-2019
Tim was born and brought up in Woodmancote near Cheltenham. After taking his O-levels at Cheltenham Grammar School he joined the Coal Research Establishment at Stoke Orchard as a trainee photographer in which rôle he travelled the country taking photographs of National Coal Board establishments. Taking early retirement after 25 years’ service he had a second career working primarily as a photographer for the Bugatti Trust in its newly-established study centre at the foot of the famous hillclimb at Prescott. His task was to create positive images from the thousands of negatives owned by the Trust in the days before digital photography.
Not only did Tim create a massive collection of his own photographs but his reputation led many people to bring their own archive photographs for him to copy, which he did with the utmost care.
Sadly in 2012 he was diagnosed with an illness which led to kidney failure meaning dialysis three times a week. In these circumstances he asked me to ensure his photographs were not thrown into a bin when he would no longer be with us. His death in October 2019 ended a friendship which had lasted over sixty years and began a task to ensure his wishes were carried out. Therefore I am delighted that so many will now be readily available through Glosdocs. Please give acknowledgement should you wish to use any of them.
In 2008 Tim wrote his autobiography Passing Time, copies of which are still available to purchase online.
